Watercolor CAS Summer Colors Card

Hi Everyone,
I’m so happy to announce that I’m on the Design Team for Artistic Inspirations!

Thank you to Fiona, who is the Blog Owner of Artistic Inspirations Challenge Blog and also the Design Team Leader. The design team members make incredible designs!

The challenge for May 15 is CAS for fun and this is the card I made for it. I hope you like it!

I made a watercolor wash background with Artist Loft Pearlescent Water Colors. (Please see the product link at the end of this post). These watercolors are great! I think the 33 reviews average at 4.8 stars at this point. Anyway, the colors shimmer as the light hits them making the canvas look like it has a pearlized glaze over it.

This is what the Palette looks like with the cover:

This is what it looks like without the cover:

The colors I used from the Palette were Gold, Pink and Tangerine – these are my best guesses to their names. The palette doesn’t include the names of the colors.

I grabbed a scrap piece of white card stock paper and taped it down. I brushed water onto the card stock paper. Then I started painting with the tangerine color first. I blended the pink to the tangerine and finally blended the gold color to the pink.

I don’t have pictures of the painting process because I wasn’t intending to use this scrap piece. This was supposed to be practice with the color combinations only and then I was going to paint again for the pictures. But I liked how the practice piece came out, I decided to use it.

I tried to show the pearlized shimmer under the light:

I used a Rectangle Die with faux stitching on the Cuttlebug machine.

It gave a nice clean cut.

I didn’t want to stamp directly onto the water color background because I didn’t want to mess up the only hand painted piece of card stock I had! Instead, I stamped on scrap label sheets (from when I cut out my Printable Planner Stickers) I used Stampin’ Up Egg Plant.

These were the stamps I used:

The colors reminded me of Ice Cream on a hot day or the beach, so I wanted to use the phrase, “Hello Sunshine” and then I chose “I simply enjoy you” because it’s supposed to be a Clean and Simple Card.

I was nervous that the stamp would smear on such a smooth surface, but it turned out well.

The Hello in Hello Sunshine smeared a bit.

I fussy cut the stamped labels and attached them to the watercolor background and then attached that to the card with double sided tape.

I used a piece of scrap paper from Crate Paper that had similar colors in a checker pattern.

I attached it with a glue pen.

I used a small pennant banner sticker for the corner.

and that’s it! It’s finished 🙂

Here’s the shimmer:
