Teenage Birthday Surprise Pop Up Card

Hi Everyone! There’s a new challenge at Digistamps 4 Joy Challenge# 138 – Anything Goes with a Twist of Special Birthday. The challenge begins July 1st and ends July 31st! The winner gets $10 Digi Stamps at Digistamps 4 Joy!

I made a Surprise Pop-Up Card for this challenge using the adorable Digistamps 4 Joy image named “Ula”:

If you pull the tab, a secret message is revealed…

Here is side profile view of this card:

and here is the pull tag in the back:

I designed this card using the DigiStamps4Joy character, “Ula”. Ula reminds me of a very creative teenager who likes art and so, I designed a teenage birthday card. I actually had a very artistic childhood friend that dressed “different from ordinary” because of her love of art. So I also had her in mind.

Here is a video of this Teenage Birthday Surprise Pop Up Card in action! Sorry it’s so dark, I have to get better lighting for my videos!:

Here is the Card Walk Through:
To make the Surprise Pop Up Card, I started with 2 card stock papers that measure 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2 EACH and one tag that measures 3″ x 4 3/4″. One of these card stock papers is the front of the card. The second card stock paper is the back of the card.

I took the card stock paper that is the front of the card and marked EACH corner with a pencil at 1/4″ x 1/4″ inch.

Do you see the dots on the 4 corners?

I used a pencil to draw lines connecting the dots on the left side, the right side and the bottom. I did not connect the top dots.

I used a craft knife and a ruler to cut these lines:

This is what it should look like so far:

I scored 3 lines measuring from the very bottom of the card.
First score line: 1 1/4″ inch
Second score line: 3″ inch
Third Score line: 4″ x 3/4″ (the top of the flap)

I folded the first score line up:

I folded the second score line out:

I folded the third score line up:

The folds should look like this:

I flipped the card over and glued the bottom of the tag to the smallest fold like this:

I glued the second card stock paper to the back of the first card stock paper like this, but I did not use any glue on the back of the tag. It should look like this:

I provided a link to the video tutorial that I followed. The link will be at the end of this post.

The paper I used to decorate the front of the card is from the paper stack Moonstruck by Pink Paislee

I had cut it out to attach it to the front of the card:

The square paper tiles I used for the front of the card were from a sheet in the paper stack also:

For the digi stamp “Ula’s” background, I wanted to create an “edgy” wall. So I used a black and white prayer journal card from Bella Blvd She Blooms Illustrated Faith:

I also used a white card stock that I had die cut into a rectangle and then die cut again with a distress net shape cutting die:

I attached them like this:

I colored the DigiStamps4Joy design “Ula” digital stamp with Spectrum Noir markers. I had printed 2 of them so I could make 3D parts to the image like the pettiskirt and her hair.

I used an embossing pen to score over the fold lines at the back of the pettiskirt image:

I molded and attached the skirt to the “Ula” image:

I also did the same to the hair (yes, I had a lot of time on my hands this day):

It’s hard to tell in the pictures but the hair and skirt is supposed to look 3D:

I attached the “Ula” image and a square cupcake picture next to her and glued it to the second fold. I did not glue it to the top fold

I attached a Happy Birthday Sentiment and 2 black star embellishments:

For the hidden message, I used a “Let Your Light Shine” square Journal card and gold glitter washi tape:

For the top of the tag, I cut a glitter sheet from the paper stack:

I used Stampin’ Up Eggplant color and the stamp “Just a Creative type of Girl”:

I stamped on clear sticker paper and attached it to the pink glitter paper. I also used a floral square journal card to cover the white space:

I punched a hole on the top of the tag, and added a rhinestone and ribbon. It’s finally done! Thank you for visiting 🙂
