Cupcake Unicorn Card Tutorial

Hi everyone! I joined another sketch challenge today. They’re so much fun, I think I might be addicted! I like sketch challenges because they force you to create a card in a format that you might not have thought about.

I was also designing for a unicorn cupcake color challenge so I wanted to marry the challenges together in this design.

The striped pattern paper reminded me of a Unicorn’s multi-color horn so I thought that would work well for the colors in the challenge. This pattern paper is from Photo Play Hoppy Easter Collection. I actually used this striped paper for this Easter Bakery Storefront Card
I made last week. I must really like this pattern! 🙂

I used a teal color card stock paper to use as the first layer in the middle.

Dimensions:
Card Dimensions (Laid Flat): T 5 7/16″ height 8 7/16″ width
Card Dimensions (Folded): 5 7/16″ height 4 1/4″ width

Teal Card stock strip: 5 7/16″ height 2 1/8″ width
Stripe Card stock strip: 5 7/16″ height 1 13/16″ width

I used double sided tape to attach the stripe patterned strip to the teal strip.

I attached the strip to the center of the card

I cut the cupcake and the Scallop circles with the Cricut. I used the cupcake from the Create a Critter Cartridge. The Scallop Circles were from Elegant Edges Cartridge.

Scallop Dimensions: 2 1/2″ height
Cupcake Dimensions: 2 1/4″ height

The cupcake face is so cute! The top icing part can be used as smiling clouds in another project! The cherries are a cute embellishment also. I plan to make a cherry stencil from it in a future project. Cherry background would make a cute card for the summer!

I used the Unicorn Free Digital Stamp from Useless Trinkets. (Link at the bottom of post!). He’s so adorable and roly poly. I thought he was Perfect for a cupcake theme! I decided to give his mane and tail a marbleized look with pastel color Spectrum Noir. I didn’t want the color to over power the Clean integrity of the design I was trying to create.

Unicorn Dimension: 2 inches height (after cropping it).

Spectrum Noir Colors used for pastel marbleized pattern:
PP1, TB2, LY1, BT2

If you’re using Copic markers, I believe the Copic Conversion Colors are:
RV00, B63, BG11, I don’t know the conversion for LY1 (the light yellow color)

I used Tammit Gel pens for the vivid multi color horn.

I attached the cupcake to the scallop using a fine tip glue pen instead of double sided tape. It gives me more control.

I attached the Unicorn Digi Stamp to the Scallop using a fine tip glue pen as well.

Then I attached them to the card using the double sided tape.

For the sentiment, I used a Clear Stamp “you’re one of my nicest thoughts” because it was the width of the card. It also worked because the scallop circles remind me of little thought bubbles. The clear stamp sentiment is from Hero Arts. They make amazing sentiment stamps. Note to self, I have to add them to my list of favorite craft brands in my Bullet Journal 🙂

My Stamping Up Black color stamp pad dried out, so I used Craft Smart Pigment Ink Pad in Black instead. I believe it’s a Michaels Brand. It’s a great price for a good product!

The Free Unicorn Digi Stamp also comes with free Unicorn related witty sentiments to choose from! My favorite free sentiment was, “Real Unicorns have Curves”. Super funny!

I attached the sentiment to the center of the card with my favorite glue pen.

Thanks for viewing my card! I had fun making it and I hope it inspires you on your next project!
