Aluminum Foil Dragonfly Embellishment Card

Hi Everyone!
I wanted to play with aluminum foil and hand embossing today to create an embellishment with a Dragonfly Digi Stamp from Crafting with Dragonflies. Crafting with Dragonflies is having a DT Call Challenge with this Dragonfly image. I’m entering this card in that challenge. If you’re interested in being part of their DT Call and playing with a fun Dragonfly Digi Image, I left the link at the end of this post.

Here is the card I made with the Dragonfly Image:

I tried to hold it up to the light:

Here is the Card walk through:
I used my Cuttlebug Embossing mat, but any embossing mat will work (if you have a mouse pad handy, that will work too!):

I set the foil over the Embossing Mat. I wanted a shiny Dragonfly so I made sure the aluminum frosted side was facing up towards me and the shiny side facing down towards the mat:

I printed and set the Dragonfly image over the foil. I printed more than one Dragonfly in case I didn’t like the results I would try a different technique.

I used a fine embossing pen. You can use a mechanical pencil tip but make sure the led in the mechanical pencil is not out because then the led might tear the paper and the foil.

This is the result of tracing the image over the foil:

I fussy cut the Aluminum Butterfly and used Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers to color the foil. I used a Micron Pen to outline the colors of the Spectrum Noir Markers.

The Spectrum Noir Colors I used were:
True Black

Alcohol Inks and Sharpie Markers and Micron Pens work on the Foil. Water based inks will not.
I cut strips of paper for the tops of the wings, colored them black with a sharpie and used a black glitter gel pen to add sparkle to the tops of the wings.

Here’s a close up of the glittered wing:

I added Mod Podge Super Gloss to the entire Dragonfly to make it glossy after the glitter was applied.

I die cut the patterned paper and attached it to the card with double sided tape:

I stamped my sentiment. I don’t know what brand this stamp is? I got it from the dollar bin at Michaels. I actually think it was 50 cents? It’s been a few years!

I Die Cut the stamped image and smudged it by accident. So I made a black paper bow to cover the smudge! I attached it to the card and added black pearl accents:

I used Mod Podge to glue some Cabachon flowers, the Dragonfly embellishment and more black pearls. I also used stickers I had leftover from Easter.

This Dragonfly also worked with a Sunset Background 🙂
